New Year's in Niigata is my second box from Sakuraco and I am just as in love with this box as I was the December box! I love getting the greeting postcard and the booklet that lets us get to know the region, puts a spotlight on the makers, and has information about the current holiday traditions of the region. The booklet also provides information on the treats and home goods included in the box. This year was the year of the Rabbit 2023 and there were two specific treats that embodied the feel of the season. These two treats were the Snow Rabbit soft chew and the Rabbit Hozui. These two treats were designed to look like little rabbits and were soft and fluffy marshmallow-like with a bit of gummy element to them. Very tasty! I loved the Echighime Strawberry Crepe! It was light and fluffy with strawberry mousse inside. There was a sake cup included in the box this month, so of course, I had to get some sake and toast the new year with my family. The Hyoroku Mochi (Take note: they come with edible rice paper wrapping) was very nostalgic of being a child and getting candy gummies to eat. There was a fortune cookie with a QR code to check out my fortune for the new year, which was a fun treat! The Niigata Nanban Shrimp Crackers were good. Shrimp is not my personal favorite flavor, but if you love shrimp, you will definitely love these crackers! I love the Hatsune Okaki! They are little rice crackers that are both savory and sweet with sugar crystals on the top, very tasty! Again, I really enjoyed the sweet and savory Bakauke Sesame Rice Crackers and the Negi Miso Senbei, so good! The Negi Miso Senbei was like having a crunchy version of the soup. The Ajigonomi was a very special treat! I really enjoyed the little rice crackers mixed in with the dried anchovies! I love sardines and anchovies, so this was a nice surprise! The Brown Sugar Karinto was so good! It reminded me of eating caramel corn with my grandma when I was a kid, so this was very nostalgic for me. The Matcha Anko Dorayaki is a cake-like treat with matcha bean paste in the middle and is very soft and fluffy. The Genmai Black Bean Houjicha tea is wonderful and smooth! Finally, the new year's box came with a mystery treat that came with a QR code in order to identify which treat we received. My treat was the very tasty Romansketch Biscuit, which was like a shortbread cookie sandwich with vanilla frosting inside. Yum! Overall, I really am enjoying my Sakuraco subscription!
